The most unforgettable experience was my first time flying back to Hong Kong during the holidays. I bought a cheap connecting flight ticket, but being careless, I realized at the airport that I had left the ticket at home. I ended up paying extra to change to a later flight and had to stay at the transit station for nearly two days. With no money on hand, I finally returned to Hong Kong feeling exhausted and guilty for spending more of my family's money due to my carelessness. When I called to explain the situation, my mom said, 'It's okay, as long as you're safe,' which moved me to tears. The following three years at university were very enjoyable. While some say studying abroad is lonely, I cherished the freedom and simplicity there—attending classes, doing laundry, and cooking daily. On holidays, I could explore London, which was bustling like Hong Kong but with quieter, more comfortable university surroundings. Despite adapting to being independent abroad, returning to Hong Kong was challenging due to the fast-paced lifestyle and being cared for again. It's been a year since I came back, but I still deeply miss my life at university in the UK.

Many parents hope their children achieve ideal academic results, attend university, or gain advanced professional degrees for better career opportunities and success. I am no exception. Reflecting on my son's moderate academic performance in Hong Kong, even if he managed to enter secondary school, getting into university would still be difficult. In today's competitive society, I believed not attending university would make his career path even harder and impact his future. Therefore, I chose for him to study in Australia. During his four years of studying in Australia, I saw significant maturity in my son. For instance, he learned to cook, clean, and handle daily chores independently, something he never did before. He became much more independent, courageous in facing and solving challenges, and mentally matured. More importantly, studying abroad gave him an opportunity to practice English, broaden his horizons, and boost his confidence in his future career. I believe parents should understand their children's interests and aspirations early and help them choose the right courses to study in a quality and enjoyable environment, without worrying about academic struggles, and guide them toward their personal goals.

Caring Perspective
Is the moon brighter abroad? No. Is studying abroad prestigious? No. Is staying in Hong Kong undesirable? No. So why do financially stable families send their children overseas to study? The reason lies in Hong Kong's frustrating education system. From primary to secondary school entrance exams, to the overwhelming native language policies, the academic path in Hong Kong is full of challenges. Even with excellent grades, getting into university isn't guaranteed. Compared to that, studying abroad offers an easier path to obtaining a university degree. Moreover, studying abroad benefits a child's growth. Away from their parents, they learn to face life's challenges independently and develop empathy. For example, after living with a host family, my daughter realized how hard domestic helpers work, which changed her attitude. This kind of experience cannot be provided by Hong Kong's education system. Overall, studying abroad positively impacts both a child's growth and family dynamics, making it worth considering.
